Rwanda has been voted the sixth safest country in the world and the safest place in Africa for solitary travelers, according to a recent poll.
Switzerland came out on top, with Japan coming in third as the only country outside of Europe to make the top ten safest countries list.
The ranking was established by combining a crime index and a safety score to determine where solitary travelers would feel the most secure. Data was used to create these indices.
Slovenia, Georgia, Iceland, Croatia, Czechia, Austria, and Denmark round out the top ten.
Rwanda is still associated with the 1994 genocide for many people. However, the country is now commonly recognized as one of the safest in Africa for some time.
“Rwanda has invested much effort in its national security, by building competent and professional security organs,” the survey noted.
Tourists need not be concerned about Kigali, the capital city, because crime is low. In a Gallup survey published in 2018, 88 percent of Rwandans indicated they felt comfortable walking alone at night, the same percentage as Finland, Slovenia, and Tajikistan.
Singapore, Norway, and Hong Kong were the only places where more respondents indicated they felt safe.
