Italy has become the latest European country to tighten vaccination requirements for persons who have not been vaccinated.
Its “super” health pass, which gives individuals who have been vaccinated or recovered from COVID admission to cinemas, theaters, concerts, big athletic events, and indoor eateries, went into force on Monday.
Previously, the basic health pass in Italy was sufficient to gain access to such places. Those who have been immunized, recovered from COVID, or provided a negative test can acquire the pass.
The basic pass in Italy, which was originally launched in August, was expanded to include the workplace in October. Local transportation is now also required.
Hundreds of police officers were stationed at transit hubs in Rome’s capital, verifying both green permits and personal identification, and finding a cooperative atmosphere among commuters. Despite this, a 50-year-old Roman was the first to be fined 400 euros for boarding the bus at the northern Flaminio station without a “basic” health ticket, according to Stefano Napoli, deputy head of police.
