Novak Djokovic, a Serbian tennis player, has arrived in Belgrade after losing his Australian visa battle and being deported due to his Covid vaccination status.

After losing a visa battle over his lack of vaccinations, the top men’s tennis player was deported.

Waving the national flag and screaming “we adore Novak,” supporters gathered at Belgrade’s airport.

“This is a shame what they did to Novak in Australia,” one supporter said. “This is a shame what the world has come to.”

“I myself am vaccinated, double-jabbed, but I think no-one should be forced to do something… he was judged and sentenced for his freedom of choice,” he added.

The Australian Open, which has been overshadowed by the players’ immigration issues, started on Monday in Melbourne.

Djokovic was supposed to play later that day, but his sudden deportation put a stop to his chances of earning a record 21st Grand Slam title.

Djokovic, 34, is barred from obtaining a new visa for three years under Australian immigration restrictions.

However, Prime Minister Scott Morrison has stated that he may be permitted to enter the country sooner if the “right circumstances” exist.
